Sounds like a good system. I've recently been diagnosed with depression (though, in all honesty, it wasn't much of a surprise), the upside being that it has kick started my writing again (2 x 10,000+ word stories in 2 weeks YAY!!), the down side being I'm starting to feel guilty for not working enough and then thinking I need to step away to get the story straight in my head. I like the tiddlywink idea, I may venture into the toy shop in my village and see if I can find them - I may change pink to black, though that may look too appealing to want to take time off!!
Hope everything is going well in the big smoke. Congrats on publishing your book, I see the reviews are giving it the thumbs up. I hope, one day, I'll be seeing a book with my name on the shelves. Just got to get working, right? :)

I'm glad you are enjoying it. I don't know what it is about the piece specifically but it seems both melancholic and uplifting all at the same time. It is taken from Waits album 'Alice' which is a collection of songs he wrote for a theatre production directed by Robert Wilson about the (unrequited) relationship between Lewis Carroll and Alice Liddell. The whole album, and pretty much everything Waits has ever done, is worth checking out (hint, hint!!). I also recommend the album 'Blood Money' which was released at the same time as 'Alice' which is another collection of songs written for a stage adaptation of Woyzeck, directed by Georg Buchner. Happy listening :)

Hi Katy,

In regards to your interview, have you heard 'Fawn' by Tom Waits which uses the same violin set-up as you discuss (i.e. with a small horn to project the sound)? When I first heard it I was utterly confused because it sounded like a violin breathing, haha. I've posted a link to it, it is a beautiful instrumental piece in its own right, made even more interesting in its use of the violin.

Hope you enjoy it :)
